Why join a women’s shed
-We are a group of like-minded women. We want to learn tool based skills. When we meet there is also a social aspect to our gatherings. We come together to chat, laugh and share experiences. We also have a great sense of community,
-tool based learning gives members a chance to grow in confidence. You get a great sense of accomplishment when you learn new skills. As a group there is a shared sense of trust and friendship.
How do I join NWS?
It’s simple.
We are in the process of transitioning to the Hello Club app. Click on the link on our Membership page. This will take your directly to our Hello Club portal where you can complete your details and pay for your membership. There are two options for payment, either credit card or bank transfer. We do not store any credit card details.
If you would prefer to meet us first, you are most welcome to come to one of our Shed meetings. These are held on the first Saturday of every second month from 1.30pm.
This starts in February. We don’t have a meeting in December. We replace that with our Xmas party.
At the conclusion of the meeting, we gather for a social catchup over drinks and nibbles. A $5 contribution is asked to assist with catering.
What if I want to join just for social events?
If you don’t want to learn how to use tools we do offer a Social Membership. It costs $40 and includes insurance. You will be prohibited from doing any workshops that use power tools but you can participate in other activities and our social events.
What safety protocols do we operate under at NWS?
In accordance with our mission statement, we want members to work in a safe and well-equipped environment. We ask that members adhere to our safety guidelines when attending accreditation and project sessions.
Every member is being accredited in tool usage so that they are aware of how to use tools safely.
At accreditation and project sessions we ask that you :
-wear appropriate clothing, i.e. no loose clothing, no loose jewelry, hair needs to be tied back
-wear closed in shoes
-wear safety glasses and ear protection. These items are BYO
-operate tools with a duty of care, both for you and others
-look out for each other. If you see a dangerous situation, please take appropriate action.
A duty officer is on site during all shed activities. A minimum of 2 people MUST be in the shed if you are using tools.
We ask that you sign in and sign out and wear your NWS badge when using the shed.
Do I have to do the tool accreditation sessions?
You may already be skilled with tools. That’s great. However, for insurance purposes, you must complete our tool accreditation.
How do I register for an accreditation or project session?
Firstly for insurance purposes you need to have full membership (not social membership) before you can attend any sessions.
You can book and pay for all our workshops and activities on our Hello Club portal.
A full calendar of events is also found on our Hello Club portal. This is also emailed to our members.
